Child Psychopathology with Respective to Parents: Behavior and Approaches

Ana Julia Aguirre-Samudio

This article addresses the relationship between child andparents with presence of psychopathology. Regressionanalysis was used to examine the independent influence ofeach group of parents and social factors on children'spsychopathology, behavior problems, and cognition. Alarger parental psychopathology group is associated with alarger childhood psychopathology group. Furthermore, larger socioeconomic status groups are associated with thegeneral executive and cognitivefunctions of older children, but with fewer behavioral inhibition groups. Larger groupsof interaction and proximal social environment areassociated with less impulsive behaviors and behavioralinhibitions of children, but are associated with larger groupsof behavioral activation. Environmental groups related tobirth outcomes, maternal smoking, and drug use are notsignificantly related to children's psychopathology, behavior, and cognition. Our research results show thatsocioeconomic status, parental psychopathology, socialenvironment and interaction are the most important risksfor general children’s behavioral and cognitive performanceproblems. The intervention plan must address modifiablefactors in these areas.
